CNN —Alice Munro, the Nobel Literature Prize winner best known for her mastery of short stories and depictions of womanhood in rural settings, has died in Ontario, Canada, at the age of 92. The news was confirmed to CNN “with great sadness” by a spokesperson at her publisher, Penguin Random House. It largely sets the tone for Munro’s prose; semi-autobiographical in nature and exploring the universality of the human urge for self-discovery, love, and independence, through the mundanity of everyday life in small, rural communities. Popoola’s most recent sculpture is a 12-foot-tall, 882-pound piece depicting the decorated head and neck of an African woman, inspired by his wife. “The work showcases the beauty of Black women all over the world,” Popoola said of the piece, which he began in 2022. “The amount of support shown by women all over the world made me shed tears of joy in my studio. Archie Moore, an Indigenous Australian artist who has created an installation including a monumental family tree, won the top prize at the Venice Biennale on Saturday. High-heeled roller skates, a palm-frond umbrella and a shower in a can — these are just a few of Pippa Garner’s hundreds of inventions. For the past 50 years, the artist has been satirizing U.S. consumer habits with designs that are not always entirely useful. Few things have escaped her restless, imaginative tinkering, from automobiles to her own body, which she began, in her words, “gender-hacking” in the mid-1980s. That may be why the art world establishment long treated Garner, 81, as a fringe character, more madcap inventor than conceptual artist in the tradition of Marcel Duchamp or Andy Warhol. There are T-shirts printed with Garner’s sardonic proto-meme images and slogans, including one featuring the actor Gary Busey and the words “I pay my stalker a living wage” in all caps.

There are lots of daily tasks — eating vegetables, doing homework, brushing teeth — that kids might not understand, or care, are beneficial. Though, there is one less-talked-about activity that is crucial for child development: engaging with and creating art. "Children who are using the arts are better problem solvers," says Susan Magsamen, co-author of "Your Brain on Art: How the Arts Transform Us." Magsamen is also the founder of the International Arts + Mind Lab, Center for Applied Neuroaesthetics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. "We think it starts to regulate the nervous system in a way that changes how we feel."

A previously unknown painting by Jackson Pollock was discovered last week, per officials. Authorities found the painting in an art-trafficking bust, Bulgarian National Radio first reported. Experts estimated the painting could rack up to $54 million at an auction, according to BNR. A photo of part of the painting can be viewed at Bulgarian National Radio's website. Previously, Pollock's most expensive painting sold for $61,161,000, in 2021, according to the art market website Mutual Art.
